Post Wondering if I should through the rifle in?

Heading out camping on the long weekend wondering if its worth it to throw the gun if we are out south of Rocky mountain house. Are there many bears out that way.

Do you think he is "afraid to have a run in with a bear"?

I think he is "hoping to run into a bear". With a tag in his pocket and a gun in his hands.

I take my rifle everywhere i go when its hunting season! You never know when youll see a big buck or even a bear. Stop by the landowners house and ask for permission to take a walk through the field!!! Cant hurt.

I always bring one when camping. The way I look at is I've never really needed it but the time you don't have it is the time you might have a use for it and it's no good to you if it's locked up at home..........

The answer to the "should I throw a rifle in the truck?" question is always yes. Like American Express or is it Master Card?...Don't leave home without one. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Just throw some targets in the truck, even if out of season, you're just out sighting it in.(if asked)

Sorry, kind of off topic, but I am taking my rifle and I have my tag. If you were to shoot a bear, how long do you think it would be safe to hang before it got too warm and you had to get it home and refrigerated? Planning on keeping the meat......and will the hide be okay if heavily salted?

It is May long, so the heat might not be an issue

Well ya need a 22..........thats a given.

Ya need a 12 gauge to carry on the quad.

And ya need a big bore for safe measure.

And a slingshot.

Too funny, thats the way I load up my camper and quad. I always carry a bigun because bringing a slingshot to a bear attack is like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Default Bears are very close to Rocky mountain house! so are cougars and wolves!

My sister in-laws neighbor's daughter , had to shoot one, the bear would not leave, and just kept coming towards her and that was right by her garage.
I agree, what good is it to have a gun for wildlife safety, if You don't bring it camping!

my family live 6km's from Rocky mountain House, when we visit, we always find wolf tracks, cougar tracks or bear tracks, right there 20 feet from their front door. They have lost 2 dogs and a cat now.

one day a bear tried to go into their house, it was in the middle of the night and my brother in-law went outside to smoke, and suddenly he saw the bear, and had to very slowly get inside, the bear was curious and just had to check out the front door and he was on his way.

we always see deer, they walk all the way up to the windows, so that's very nice. they also live right by the river.
