Finally got out fishing today, now that streams are a bit clearer. Didn't catch a thing, but brought home a tasty side for dinner nonetheless:

LOL. I found them at exactly the right stage, and cooked them up within 2 hours of cutting them. Delicious, as always. Need to check a couple of my usual spots before the end of the week.

Some saskatoons are ready in the river valleys around Edmonton region too.

Bringing this thread back up, since more things are popping up as fall approaches. Went out yesterday and came home with 3/4 lb of combtooth and a few Pholiota squarrosoides:

I picked a couple pounds of combtooth the other day too. This week or next week should be prime time. Often I pick combtooth right to the end of September.

Really!? I usually think of them as a last half of August thing, and don't look for them once bird season starts. Maybe I should look under logs at the same time as I'm watching the dogs!

Definitely watch for combtooth in September and if fall is warm maybe even early October.

Clean them up really well but don’t wash. Cut them up in a small pieces, the size of your quarter, not more. Then I just thread them on a fishing line and hang to dry in a darker place will a good airflow. They usually dry in a week. Then place them in a glass jar and close the lid.

You are welcome! Oh, and make sure that the pieces are apart from each other.

It's been a banner year for mushroom up here so far, and I've been too busy to gather much.

I did gather a few giant puffballs. I could have gathered a truck load if I had wanted to but they are not one of my favorites. I like the baseball sized species a lot better.

I missed most of the meadow mushrooms, didn't expect them as early as they were so only found enough for a couple of meals.

There seems to be plenty of Northern Rough Stems around as well, but again not one of my favorites.

We found our first shaggy mane this weekend and I should have time next week, if this hot weather doesn't put them on hold.

We have a small patch of very interesting mushrooms in the back yard, but I'm not sure what they are. Some sort of Parasol mushroom I think, but not sure.
Wish they were edible, they are huge, six to eight inches across and four to six inches high.
It's most like a Macrolepiota procera but not close enough for me to say that's what they are.

I'm just not familiar with this species.
