From the article you posted:

"It’s not the first time a grass carp has been found in Lake Erie. A grass carp was caught near Point Pelee in 1985."

Seems like they've been found there before. Hope this latest one is sterile.

Default Carp in the Grand river

We were taking large carp out of the Grand River near Cambridge 50 years ago with archery equipment and it flows directly into the Great lakes. Looked much like the one in the pictures although we didnt pay much attention to subspecies they were definitely carp. 15-20 pounders from time to time spawning near the river bank were large easy targets.

I know they are not desirable, but how are they for eating?

We used to get big carp out of Lake Erie, but they were not grass carp. They were native. I never ate one, we sold ours to the American fisherman who came from Detroit.

There was also a commercial carp fishery that shipped them to New York. On the west coast I had a commercial fishing license for the Fraser valley for carp. I sold them in Chinatown in Vancouver,
