Default Artic Grayling

Want to take the boy to catch some through the ice. We are in Taber and would be willing to drive 4-5 hours. Can you guys name lakes that have this species and that is open season and that can be reached with a 4x4.

Not asking for your secrets but what works to catch them?

I think the closest spot would be Bear Pond southwest of Longview. A fairly steep .5 km hike from parking lot.

Wedge Pond on Highway 40 west of Calgary is pretty good. I have caught them through the ice there. The season is open. No bait allowed and C&R only.

I don't know what's in the area but I use my smaller trout gear, small spoons, spinners, flies, small soft body jigs...

I fished Wedge Pond on the Dec 23rd. Ice was 8 inches thick where I drilled my hole. Caught my first ever grayling on a wire worm off the bottom with 4 split shots

You could try Quarry Lake right in Canmore....stocked in '09, '12 and '13...open year round ...no bait. But I have no info on the ice conditions there.
