Really? There is enough open water on the shore to do open water fishing?

I will be heading out on Sunday. I already landed my first hard water fish two weekends ago so it has been a good year already. I hope to do well on Sunday and every weekend thereafter.

i also was planning on hard water fishing and ended up still doing open water fishing too. might go and do some scouting and bring both hard water and open water gear just in case.

I'm still undecided on where would be the best choice including being the thickest ice and best chance of catching fish of any species. I'm willing to drive 2 hours max from Edmonton. I'm frantically searching for my place of choice still. I want to leave by 6:00am ???

Got out yesterday with a few others from the forum. Pike fishing was slow, but nobody got skunked.

Yes they are.. I fish lake x near Edmonton it had terrible Ice. Don't go on where there is reeds and vegitation. Find a bare spot. Where I was had two inches of crappy frozen top water a space then 2 inches black ice. This spot isn't even a km total. Tiny
