Just a 330 in the hole they were coming up. Caught them both in the same spot. It was a small beaver dam that kept leaking water all winter and kept the hole open for the most part. I think the otters were living under the ice and I imagine there was a void of space they could breath under there just fine and must have been living in the banks. Not sure what they were eating though.

Well it seems we got rid of a problem on the forum. Thanks to those that helped in that. Don't think we will see that again or it will be a permanent thing.

So off to better things and a continuation of some of the stuff I did this summer. I had a few buddies come out to the new cabin and help me build this thing. It is not quite done but it is locked up and has a stove in it. I will be able to trap out of it this winter. Will be a constant building project for a while but it was a tone of work. I admit you might laugh at a few pics and a few of the ways I did things but I really do not have a clue what I was doing and just did the best I could. Some of the issues I had were fixed after the pics were taken by some friends that new better lol Thanks Jamie!

I forgot the camera the last time I was out there but I got the inside all insulated and boarded. I put the stove in and it heats it up great and didn't burn it down lol Got the doors and windows in properly as well and all it needs now is some sort of siding and a roof over the front porch basically.
I also plan on a shed as well and to cut a few more trees down which I should have done before hand. Like I said earlier it isn't perfect by far. It was a good learning thing for me and I am sure it will work for many many years. Can't wait to see what is in the area for fur now

Cabin looks great. Thats one heck of a job, esp. considering the distance you have to travel to work on it, and how tough it must be getting material to the site.
Your cabin might become a landmark for pilots with that multicoloured roof.

Figured u guys would love the roof! lol $350 instead of the regular 700$ if I took the dented and odd colours. I figured nobody would care about the looks too much. I was my normal cheap self but it all keeps the rain off the same. Can't wait till November guys!!!

Nube your roof will be covered with snow for 6 months during trapping season so your rainbow colors will not be noticed. Looks like nice warm cabin.

If you really want to test your saw out Bri there is a dead pine tree behind the cabin that is real big and needs to be cut up but no biggy. Don't drop it on the cabin please lol I got lots already split and in the storage at the front of the cabin already to rock and roll.

Well here we go on another season. First snare out for the year and a few coyote catches. Got 8 in one day on 3 baits which was a good start.

Lots of wolves this year around. This one showed up 100 yards from the cabin the night I got there in a fresh skiff of snow. I had just brought in my beavers to start marten trapping and I could here them howling all night and morning. Went out to start the marten line and saw the fresh tracks 100 yards away and was amazed they would come so close.

I made these boxes this summer and put them up. I like them but I found that sometimes the marten does not hang out of the box and the birds come and pick at them and there are tuffs of hair pulled out. I think I will have to revamp things so when the marten gets caught he falls out of the box.

Met this guy along the trail. I gave him a chunk of bait when I left as I had a marten box 50 yards away and didn't want to see him in the box when I got back. So far it has worked but no marten in the box yet.

Squirrel numbers are super high this year. They are everywhere and like to eat marten bait

I can't keep these guys away either. They sure take a beating in those 120's

A good catch on this one

I am really liking using pans on my triggers

Looking good Phil. Set your traps right near the front of the box and they should fall out when fired. Sure wish there were Marten where I live.

Thanks Larry for the advise. I think I will try that and see how it goes. I may have to not have so much of a platform as well so they fall off.

Jim the Cabin is awesome. It holds heat real well. Only issue is I need some siding. When it rains a lot the floor in the corners and some of the sides gets wet from moisture soaking through the sides. I just need to get some siding and I think I will just get some metal siding and run it down below the base of the cabin. I also have to put a roof over the porch and a shed as well. Still lots to do. It is functional for now. So far no issues with people either. My local Fish cop has been by a few times I believe. He left me a note on one of my marten with his card on it. Nice to know he patrols in the area. Wish I had more time to spend out there but it will come once my kids get a bit older. I am glad to be able to use the line as much as I can and I will say at least it is getting trapped and used.

I found some Otter tracks I need to set on next time I am up!! Glad to see I still have one running around.
