In your opinion, if you have fished both, which is the better lake? Walleye, pike, quantity, quality, etc. I have fished Slave quite a few times, but never Winefred. BEL
Comparing these 2 lakes is pretty tough. Lesser Slave is a fish factory. Granted it is highly pressured and is only a tenth as good as it was 15 years ago. It produces an immense amount of fish. Winefred is a totally different fishery. It has numerous large fish. It requires protection because it would be over harvested in no time. It is a large lake by local standards but is nowhere near the size of Lesser Slave. The road in is like a super highway now. It used to be an adventure just getting to the lake. IMHO it needs to remain a catch and release fishery to allow lots of anglers to enjoy an awesome experience with lots of large mature fish.
I prefer Winefred. Less boats and traffic.. Not much of a fan of a lot of people out fishing when I am paddling
Not to hijack the thread but if your paddling is being disturbed by lots of fishing boats on LSL then you launched in the wrong place. Big lake with very limited boat access in alot of areas, but many out of the way spots where one can launch a canoe or kayak. I caught alot more big fish befor I bought a walleye boat.

I have caught over 75 fish in one day at Winefred. (i've only caught 5 fish in a day as well) winefred is still fairly difficult to get to so the boat traffic is minimal. I love catching the variety of large fish at Winefred, i use the same lures and gear for pike/walleye there. I went to the lodge 8 times last summer and can't wait to go back this summer. My best walleye there was 12 pounds and 28 lbs pike. It's my favorite lake and the lodge is great for families or just fishing with buddies.
