Default Help with Lake Newell

Heading to Newell. Need to know where on the lake is good for pike and walleye? North, south, east west? Any landmarks would be great. Also, anyone know what depths the pike are at these days? Thanks in advance everyone.

If launching at Kinbrook island launch, you can either head North keeping close to the shoreline. You can troll around an island up that way. Both Walleye and Pike can be caught in this area in the 15 feet area (might be 12 depending on lake level). Its been a while since I was there last. The other option for Pike is in front of the cabins beside the beach. You would head south around the point from the Kinbrook boat launch. Newell has a lot of great fishing but always be careful of the shallow spots on that lake as more than enough people have found themselves in trouble getting hung up on the shallow spots when the wind comes up. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the advice! Anyone else have any tips for us?

We'll be heading out in my 11ft fiberglass with a little 7.5hp outboard. Should be interesting. We're going to have to keep a close eye on the wind.

Be very carefull with the wind. If you get dumped in the water at this time of year you likely wont be able to swim far(water is very cold already).

Good luck fishin.

Default Newel

:Just got back from Newel. Fishing was slow today, we were the only boat out it was also windy with 3 to 4 ft swells but we did manage to catch 6 walleye, we kept 4 that we tagged, all were around the 55 cm mark with one 58cm. the fishing was slow all day, We fished for pike early afternoon and and only caught 1 , 65 cm. When we left the lake at 4pm the netters were just pulling in to start there netting slaughter!!!!, We were told by a fella on shore that they were going to allow 90,000 lbs of fish to be netted out of Newel this fall and winter, dont know if this is true or not, but I hope not.. NO wonder we can't catch any fish. Anyways we fished north of Kinbrook boat launch by the Island 20-30 ft of water, When I cleaned the fish tonight they were loaded with tiny perch they they were feeding on, anyways good luck and watch the wind,

Theres actually a tonne of perch in that lake....good luck targetting them though.

Your best bet this time of year is on the SE side of the lake. Long ways to go in a small boat but that seems to be where they hang out.

Or you can fish along the ridge that runs along the launch north and south of the launch/pp park area. A guy can usually find them anywhere along there. Everytime i've been this year, caught fish, but only caught 2 in our size limit. Kept catching them over 60 cms....

Went to Newell today and the wind was crazy. Long way to go from Calgary to Newell for a rough day on the water. The 11 foot fiberglass boat was tossed around by the waves. My fishing buddy was able to score a 12 pound pike and that was it. Looking forward to ice fishing on Newell.
