Default Sask. man takes record mule deer near Arm River

The non-typical mule deer's rack was measured by Henry Kelsey at 293 6/8, a Sask. record

A Saskatchewan man has harvested a non-typical mule deer with the highest Henry Kelsey score since the 1920s.

Dennis Bennett killed the animal on Oct.1 during a bow hunt. It was measured six days later by official Henry Kelsey measurers and scored 293 6/8.

A news release on the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation's website says the deer is a new provincial record, surpassing a score of 290 from hunter Nelson Clark in the 1920s.

Long grain fields and deep, deep coulees in that area. OK as long as you don't have to drag them back up hill.
Beauty Mule Deer, beats my 231 Non- typical into insignificance.

I know Dennis and he is a die hard hunter and a great guy. He definitely deserves this deer as he puts in all kinds of time and lives in some real nice country. Whitetails and Mulies right in his back yard so to speak.

I thought most record keeping organizations had a waiting period of 30 - 60 days to let the antlers dry out and shrink. On a set this big how much will it shrink? It would be interesting to measure it and the Nelson buck a year from now to see which is really larger.

Default mule deer

Very nice non typical mule deer, but no where near to the world record Chip Lake, Alberta mule deer taken in the 1950's.

A great example for us in Alberta. Perhaps certain prairie units should be resident only, or have it the same as Sheep with non residents a week later.

Default It's official

“It was a pleasure to be part of the panel recognizing this beautiful non-typical mule deer from Saskatchewan as a New World Record,” stated Eli Randall, Records Director for the Pope and Young Club. “The pictures of this deer do not do it justice. This 291 1/8" giant will be a must see at our convention in Omaha, Nebraska April 10th - 13th, 2019.”

Default mule deer

Bushrat, you are correct, The World Record Alberta mule deer was taken in 1926 by Chip Lake by Ed Broder. It only scored 355 2/8. The Sask mule deer will need to grow some more horn.

Default Sask. man takes record mule deer near Arm River

Hey all just got word today that Dennis the hunter who shot this giant Muledeer is in a hunt bigger then anything he has hunted for in his life. He is hunting for a Stem Cell Donor. I’m gonna post the Facebook message his wife posted today. Just thought I would attach this to this thread to get the word out there as a donor is in need. Dennis farms in the next town down the road from where I grew up he is a father, a husband, and an avid outdoorsman. He is a great down to earth guy. Thoughts and prayers are with Dennis and his family.

Just shows what sound management and no non resident hunting can achieve.

Our best Mule deer units should be resident only.

I know for a fact that some prime land is tied up by outfitters. I wont name them, however many on here know who they are.
