Default Stettler Pheasant Festival

Good morning all.

Have a hunt booked with a buddy for mid Oct for the Stettler Pheasant festival. First time hunting pheasant. Just curious if a dog is absolutely necessary or can a guy just beat the bush?

If a dog is needed, any idea on rates or maybe a guy looking for some live training?

A dog is a huge advantage, and one forum member densa44 usually likes to act as a dog handler, with some of his dogs.

I would contact the organizers, as they likely have contact information for people volunteering as dog handlers.

I have had some luck just beating the bush with no dog. As much as I'd love to have dog my work life schedule won't allow it. So when I go I just hope for the best and enjoy the day

It has been so dry in the area, a pheasant would have a tough time hiding in some of the fields they used in the past. If they don't all run or fly into the brush, you might see them in the fields from a long ways away.
