Default Which St. Croix?

My dad wants to spend about $350.00 on a walleye rod, 7ft-7ft 6. He isn't the kind of guy that has 10 rods for 10 different purposes, so he would like it to be something that he can use for multiple situations, such as jigging up to 3/8oz jigs, casting smallish lures, and trolling Rapalas up to 20 feet deep.

It also must be a St. Croix. He must've been captivated by the commercials or something

Any help is much appreciated!

DAMN St croix just finished huge sales.

Get the legend tournament walleye rod. Wont ever look at any other rod after.

I think they retail around 390+gst but you can maybe wait for a sale if you're patient.

I was thinking of that particular rod as well, but wasn't sure what length and power would be best all around. I'm thinking 7ft M, but I know my dad would like to go with a 7ft 6. The 7ft 6 appears to only come in ML, which I think thinking might be a little too light for trolling cranks.

The medium light is a little light for the trolling i feel.

For one rod i would probably take the medium. Its still got some more back bone for bottom bounce and trolling atleast.

A rod that can handle a big lipped crankbait to dive 20 feet will not work ideally with "smallish" lures.
If he is using smaller lures/jigs on the regular, ML for walleye will be great. M action would handle standard sized jerkbaits/medium jigs great. MH will handle heavy jigs and deep diving rapalas. The M is a good compromise between them and why so many people choose that.

The avid series is a great rod and comes in a little under his price point, legend tournament is next step up and is more in that $350 price range. If you can find a legend elite on sale, you could get one of those around $350 and they are amazing rods.

For the length, 6'6" was the standard for many years, but lots of guys are moving more towards longer rods (myself included) I feel like a 7' rod is the ideal all around length.

St.Croix makes great rods, he will be happy with the purchase. If you can pair it up with a Stradic, you got a real great combo on your hands IMO.

I agree. I would go with the 7’ medium. Not sure why u would have to go with a 7’6”

Thanks for the replies. That's what I was leaning towards as well. The old boy just likes the idea of using an extra long rod. Always uses a 7ft and was intrigued with the idea of going a little bigger.
