Default ACA Kids Can Catch event - Feb 15th

Hi all,

A friend of my wife’s is in charge of planning the upcoming ACA Kids Can Catch event that is being held out at Wabamun on Feb 15th (the free family fishing weekend). She is looking for volunteers to help drill holes, get kids setup with rods and hooks, show some basics to newbies, help bait hooks, take fish off, etc. They are planning for a lot of kids to attend and could use some volunteers.

Myself and my family will be there lending a hand and I thought it would be great if some of the AO forum members were able to come out and help some kids develop a love for the outdoors and fishing. If you are able to help, shoot me a PM with your name and phone number and I will pass it along to the event coordinator.

And if you know someone who has kids that would like to get into the sport, here’s a link for the registration: https://www.ab-conservation.com/even...catch/wabamun/

I thought I would put this up on the radar again as it is this Saturday. They have 600 kids registered already and expect close to 1000 to show up at the event. It would be great for some AO members to be able to help introduce the sport to a whole new generation!

PM me if interested and I will get you connected.

Roughly 1200 people showed up yesterday. Many of them had never fished before, let alone ice fished. Thanks to all the volunteers that helped pull this off. Here’s some aerial footage of the event.

That is a good turn out for sure. Any kids get lucky enough to bring in anything big?

Nothing big that I saw. The majority were smaller pike.

Oh well as long as there was some fish biting the kids still have fun. It’s us adults that get caught up in how big the fish are

Then I’m a kid. I don’t really pay attention to how big unless I have a tag in my pocket.

Good to hear the event was a success!

Nothing wrong with being a big kid. My buddy is a riot to hunt and fish with because he gets excited about every animal and fish. I laugh every time he sends me a pic of an 8inch trout I can barely see in his hands but he is smiling like it’s a trophy of a lifetime
