Default Archery Canada Re-instates "Hunter" class

The hunter class is back as a championship class. I believe it is the same rules and the green stake is back.

Keep in mind the rules/equipment restrictions for Archery Canada Hunter Class, and the ABA Bow Hunter Challenge are different.

Different rules yes ...but a step in the right direction instead of two backward...we DO make a differance!!!

I don't think they posted any rules yet. I can not seem to find them yet.

I hope they get rid of the lame 4 pin rule. nearly every sight comes with min 5 pins as standard.

Just ran Archery Canada re-instates Hunter Class and the following link:
http://www.archerycanada.ca/en/3d-archery/64-information/1890-3d-archery-announcement-hunter-category

It states the following: The Archery Canada Board of Directors recently passed a motion to reinstate the Hunter (HUN) category as a competitive class at the Canadian 3D Championships beginning in 2016. As well, the Hunter category will shoot from the green stake in the Outdoor Championship.

It should be a good year and positive direction as Bow Hunters are the backbone to 3D Archery.

In short Bowhunting was considered a blood sport...

A shoot created by bowhunters made politically correct by non-hunting shooters

It was deemed developmental and non championship, means you could shoot the class but not get recognized.

Not on the board so I don't know the reasoning except for outdoor some want to do away with the green shooting stake. Indoor max distance is 50 should be the same for outdoor maybe?

Archery Canada made name changes a year or two ago.

Bowhunter Open, became Compound Unlimited
Bowhunter Release, became Compound Fixed Pins
Hunter Class/Hunter Fingers were removed as "championship classes". I think they were trying to streamline and cut down on the number of individual classes.

Then why are they still shooting at 3D targets? Answer me that. If the sole purpose was to sanitize it they would have dropped it entirely and stuck with the FITA style targets and events.

This likely had more to do with getting rid of the stakes and trophy costs for a class that had considerably less shooters in it than the other ones.

The tradition of target archery was around long before 3D shoots ever made their appearance. Dress codes for archery tournaments were in effect long before most of us were born.

There may have been a little PC agenda in the change of nomenclature, but to suggest that was the only factor is a tempest in a tea pot.

Neil you need to get out and shoot more

The gold medal winner in Provincials wore a camo shooter shirt, there are "rules" and then there are "enforceable rules"

Never suggested this was an only factor ....pretty redundant to do 3D with a flat target face...

Just stated IMHO in short...of hunters being a "non championship" class

pretty much says it all...
