Those old Marlins shoot really good.
I'm not sure if this is part of the reason I had such good success but I never maxed out loads but I neck sized my cases. Reason was I already had 44 magnum carbide dies so I also had as old Lee turret press I got in a trade one time so I extended the frame of the press with longer bolts and spacers. Then I could use the carbide sizer die and just neck size cases.

The XTPs I'm playing with are advertised at around 900 - 1800 fps. So I'll be keeping that in mind. I was pretty happy to see they weren't flying all over the place at higher velocity. Who knows, maybe this will be my long range hunting rig.

Just kidding

Bullet jump on factory Hornady 265 gr FTX ammo is more than I thought it was.

I'll have to play around with overall lengths and see what will feed properly from the magazine when I get around to loading with the same bullets. I'm assuming that is why they are so short.

0.170 jump seems excessive to me. Even tho the factory ammo is decently accurate.

On the right is the factory ammo, on the left is a 300 gr XTP that is loaded .004" from touching.

A normal hornady 265 grain flat nose bullet will shoot more accurate than most people can take advantage of out to 200 yards.
Physically I now have trouble lifting a heavy rifle. My hunting days are over. Blessed with a rifle range literally just outside my house. The 444 is light and handy with peep sights. A lot of people would be surprised how well a 444 works on gophers, coyotes ,magpies and jackrabbits.
30/30 s with open sights I can't see like I used to and scopes make em worse to carry around.
