Thumbs up Wet summer

OK I know this was brought up before but from the looks of this season there was some very nice deer taken

My vote is wet summer with lots of good crops and plant growth equalls really good antler growth

Congrats on some very fine trophies taken this year

Any thoughts?

Plus low over all deer numbers causing increased buck movement and the big boys taking more chances. Primary cause is likely what you suggest. Very good forage year.

The condition of the bucks BEFORE the Spring is likely a larger factor in Antler growth than the summer forage conditions.

In general, last winter was very mild. The critters required little replenishing to core body function before being able to put that energy into antler growth. Add in lush less toxic food available in mid to late summer = a perfect storm for big antlers.

Yup. A buck takes nutrients from his bones in his body to grow antlers. If winter was harsh and the health of the buck is low, his body wont put much extra nutrients and minerals to antler growth.

Antler growth is one of the most fascinating things in the world!

Interesting. Please elaborate.
