Default 300 Dakota

i just recieved a phone call from a long lost cousin , she told me of her fathers passing
and for some strange reason I,m not quite sure yet what it was she explained because i had such a passion for the outdoors and hunting and he had no sons or son inlaws that hunted
to make a long story short she gave me the run down on all the things and guns that was listed in his will
he was my fathers uncle, I guess it would be my great uncle
to whom I had only ever met twice .
he just passed away on monday
in his will he left me all his fire arms and reloading equipment a total of 36 guns ,mostly all sako,s and weatherbys of different calibers a few were 22 rim fire anshultch but the one in paticular is a custom made 300 dakota by dakota arms and has never been fired
i have never had anything to do wth such a caliber but read up on them alot
what my question is ???
has anyone ever had any thing to do wth a 3oo dakota ???
what are they like ??
what is youre opinions and views on such a gun and caliber ?
I understand they are being packed up and shipped to me as we type
so in a few weeks I,ll know what all I inhierited

Do you plan on selling any of them or are you not sure yet???

If you do I would be interested in the Sako's depending on what they are..

well after we get done transfering the registrations on all of them and I have recieved them
I,d like to look them over and see what they are like I dont beleive I can use that many guns
If i do intend to sell them I will just send the money back to the family
but rt now I,m kinda over whelmed by it all and dont know for sure
its not what he wanted
I understand he wants them kept in the family
I,ll have to discuss it wth my cousins and first and then if any are for sale I,ll let you know
they sound like they are quite the collection
as i did see some of them about 10 or 12 yrs ago and the ones i saw were awsome rifles

The Dakota is essentially a 300 Weatherby on a 30-06 length action. They are the inbetween from the 300WSM and the 300RUM, essentially being created off of the 404 Jeffrey case. The 300 Dakota does not have a rebated rim though.
The cartridge is very efficient, but the brass is very expensive. It is proprietary, so expect to pay $2+ per case from Dakota or other sources.
Nosler and I believe Barnes both have data, and Swift possibly. You can expect 3200 fps from 180gr bullets as a max. Slower powders such as RL22, H1000, RL25, H4831sc, IMR 7828 and AA3100 are probably your best choices.
They are very fine rifles, and it will catch a great price (especially if you have brass) with the right people.
Post pictures when you get the chance.
