Did he though? I watched it three times, is there contact at any point with McDavid's skate/leg and Gio's stick?

His stick couldn't because MC had it in his hand. Gio's the follow through and Mc's now harder lean in caused a slight clip the back of MC's leg or butt. . Lost the edge, caught the post.

They missed the first call with the holding of the stick and the fact he pulled into Gio. Its a fast game, things get missed.
Can they call a tripping penalty if they call the first infraction? Play would have been whistled down.

Gio got burned like a rented mule and made a desperate play. No intent to injure just a bad outcome.

99 for JG... Hell of a season for him.
MC's injury seemed to suck the drive out of the team.
First game is Thursday night.
Who is going???

Jamie, Jamie you are grasping at little straws.....McDavid didn't pull the stick out of Gio hand or was in contact with it for more than a split second on a slow mo replay. That "grab" or "contact" was so brief or really non existent, would not have been called in any regular play or in any other situation. You sound like Turdeau right now..... it was a trip...., it was penalty..., and most likely McDavid has a broken leg.... end of story just like SNC....

So close but still a hell of a year. Unfortunate with McLovin getting hurt but drive the net hard, you take your chances.
Ave's it is, I wish I was going, but I will be up North watching from my camp room.

Bang bang play that happens every single day in hockey
A drive to the net, a grab of the stick, guys go down. We can point fingers all we want but in the end it's a "hockey play" sometimes hockey plays results in injuries.

Gio dove at the puck as McDavid cut over, wasn't going for the "trip" he made no move towards McLovins feet or legs. The cut over is the only reason Gio made any contact with him.
What's he supposed to do stand back and let him go?? I don't think so. McDavid has to take some blame on the play as well, was no intent to injure him.

On a positive note, they are reporting his leg is NOT broken... and
I gained a lot of respect for Ryan hearing him talk on after hours and hearing his story about junior to U of A to Europe to AHL to the Canes at age 29. If I do end up pulling for the Flames in the playoffs, it would be for a guy like this and maybe even Neal. Neal earned a lot respect with me for going over and giving McDavid a tap when he was going off the ice. And putting aside the "event " tonight, I think Gio is a fairly cool story with his NHL journey and likely winning the Norris at age 35. The only other players to win the Norris at 35+ were Doug Harvey, McInnis, and Lidstrom...not bad company to be in.

What the BS move is going so hard to the net. We put those posts back they way they should be and you won't see guys going that hard to the net.
He got what he asked for.

Gio reached for the puck and missed, McDavid went down, and the result was a two minute penalty. Big deal, it was at most a two minute penalty, it;s not like it was an attempt to injure. And it was the final game of the season, McDavid has all summer to recover, it's not like Edmonton is in the playoffs.

Flames are looking really good for a run here. West is weak as hell.

LOLOLOOLLOLOL
It's Ok Randy. With my honest response, I become PUBLIC ENEIMY #1 to those who cheer for teams that don't make playoffs. I am guessing they assumed all Flames fans would throw common sense to the wind and just join in on a big McJesus hug.
Thats ok, they saw the next 2-5 years go up in smoke. I would imagine they are feeling bad.
You didn't need to have a snickers. I appreciate the anger!!

I'm not saying we don't need to show up, but the majority of those wins were against non playoff teams, Anaheim, New Jersey, Minnesota, Chicago, etc. and going what, .500 against playoff teams?

It is going to be a great series. They might have a slight edge in goal scoring but Flames have better defence. I know it is a cliche but I think the series will come down to goaltending because both Smith and Varlamov can either be really hot or really cold.
