Default different fish at mclean pond? (description only)

So i caught this fish yesterday while fishing at mclean pond, it was around 4-5 inches, body was dark green to black with occasional small white/silver patches, the tail was orange to red colored, and the head almost reminds me of a small burbot, but it had no barbels and a fork tail like a minnow. Wish i had taken a pic but it got off my hook while i was waiting for my friend to come by to look at it. Can anyone figure out what the fish is based on the description? didnt know there were other fish in there other than rainbows and maybe suckers.

Only fish that size should be rainbow or sucker. Maybe another trout species like a brookie.

Otherwise maybe introduced invasive. Too bad you didn't have a photo.

Default snakehead

Looks like a snakehead, an invasive species.

I wouldn't go so much by color, chubs come in a variety of colors. Mouth shape, size, fin shape and body shape are more indicators.

the body shape definitely resembles it. Im no chub expert, but the fish was an dark green color and it had no visible scales, all the photos i see online has visible scales, is that a possible variation as well?

Yup. First thing that came to mind. Caught chub up north in the peace almost a pound.

No, scales would be a very good indicator. Very fine scales, try longnose dace.

Might be a red-sided shiner. They are a minnow native to the west side of the Rockies, and quite common. How it would get into McLean is hard to explain.
