I can read anything written by the late Bob Scannell till I get dizzy. Had a big collection of old western sportsmen magazines when I was a young fella and loved his writing. The phenological fly is a great little hard cover pocket book he wrote about insect hatches and blooming flowers in central alberta. Jimmy McLennan is a great writer with awesome photography. Heck the Mitchells too. Ol Georges stories in the old alberta fishing guides were awesome and his son did an excellent job too. I hope I didn't miss any one. Before Internet I read those old articles till the pages fell out.

Books might help getting to know the species you want to target but time on the water will be better education. After 50+ years I'm still learning

If you are looking to learn about fishing, go to used book stores and buy up all the IN Fisherman magazines you can from the 70s, 80s, and 90's. A treasure trove of information in those magazines.

All titles by Roderick Haig Brown. A talented story teller with encyclopedic knowledge. Sadly passed, but still a giant to my way of thinking.

I have an early 1900s copy of "The Compleat Angler" by Izaak Walton. A must have, naturally.

Morris & Chan on fly fishing trout lakes is a wealth of information as is Kamloops: An Angler's Study of the Kamloops (rainbow) Trout by Steve Raymond.
