Default this was a surprise!

first 2 pics were at herm on the nsr at around 2;30 pm.river clear and you could finnaly fish off the bank. last 2 pics were at 4 pm when i got the heck out of dodge. ice shore to shore! i pity anyone silly enough to have put a boat into that nice clear river this morning and meet up with this fast moving wave of ice.

Water levels tend to rise in the evening on the NSR, then start dropping around 9-10pm if my memoury is correct.

I'd wager I know where that--or some, at least--came from. When I crossed the river on Groat Bridge this morning on my way to campus (~9:30) she was still mostly ice covered, save a small open channel. On the way home a huge open section--as far as I could see--downstream of the bridge had broken up, and the ice upstream of the bridge was severely cracking. That would be around 5:00.

have to admit that i have been skunked every time i've been to herm this year. have not seen one fish landed there this year. it's been very muddy at the outfall from all the runoff and that might help explain it. hopeing that with the river open now it will improve.

or iv'e lost my touch. maybe i should take up golf.

I went to goldbar last weekend. Only me fishing and catch nothing, not a single bite... I caught 3 in one hours last year at the exact same day and the same location. The fish not coming yet, I guess.

Until today I haven't been able to keep the burbs off my line just little guys biggest being 2.2lbs. The river has risen almost 4 feet in 48 hours where I was. Caught quite a few rockies and loads of suckers as well. Haven't seen anyone else pull a single fish yet but have heard of a few. Also seen a decent sized sturgeon break the surface clear as day this morning. I've never had my rig swapped out so fast...but to no avail.
