Default Need a better minnow trap

So I went down to the river to catch minnows. I got 55 in an hour using hook and bobber. My minnow trap 15 feet away got zip, the little buggers got all my bread eating it through the mesh, but I had zero in the trap. Any ideas?

I would wrap your bait (bread, dog food) in a window screen like material and place it inside the trap.

I make them out of a milk jug, and a gatorade bottle top for a funnel.
And I use catfood for bait.

For baits use old panty hose pieces for a mesh bag. Tied closed with dental floss.

I use pantyhose with hamburger in it. I just tie it back on itself and keep it positioned in the trap so they can’t get it from the outside. Ground meat will get you minnows and leaches.

There's a dip net I bought from cabelas I believe that I use sometimes. Works very good about 5 foot square, strings come off the corners up to a pole just lay it on the bottom or suspend it and the minnows swim.over it you just scoop em up. Works good in murky water too I just stir up the bottom where the minnows are and lay it out there and give it a quick pull straight up.and you get all.you need. If you can see them just stand still and back aways and same thing quick deliberate upward motion and you gottem. The outside edges have wire sew into them about number nine in thickness that keeps the net square. I never had much luck trappin them either. Seems people like to steal my stuff too. Minnow traps no exception.

Kibbles and bits inside a small water bottle with holes poked in it inside the trap.
