Default A Powerstorm Ratler worked twice for me

In 95 and 98 sometime in May, I cought 2 Burbot out of Wabamun Lake near the power plant close to the high-way using a Powerstorm Ratler. This lure looks like a silver fish that is slim, toobe like looking lure. I attached a picture of one that looks similar to the one I used. I found that I would catch more pike that burbot using this lure. I never expected a burbot but I did catch a few.

Default Burbot

Only can talk about on the ice as we caught a couple hundred this winter but have never seen one in the summer. Go out just at dusk until after dark. Drop a jig with smelt just a inch or so off the bottom and wait for some action. They generally feed at night so make sure you start fishing when everyone else is going to bed.

you can use minnow or smelt to catch them.

Normally during the summer time the best time to catch the burbot is after sunset

Are you fishing in a lake or river for burbot? I have caught a couple hundred of these things out of rivers, such as the Smokey River. I use a pickerel rig with weight on the bottom and medium size minnows. I caught an 11lb one last year, biggest one i have seen come out of the river. Opening day i caught 6 and 2 bull trout on this riggin'

Good Luck

Exactly, I have seen pike and burb show up together under the ice for a few times. burbs seems dont be scared by pike.

Was fishing the NSR this May and caught three of them in one whole in the space of an hour. Using a modified pickerel rig with a minnow on the end. Was just before dusk that they started to bit. Took one home to eat and its belly was full of crawfish.

They show up in the NSR when the water's really high and muddy. Not sure why, maybe they don't like light? You get them by accident sometimes bait fishing on bottom. I have a buddy who catches a bunch through the ice at Gull lake using smelts, but he says you need to hit the right spots at spawning time to have consistens success.
