Question Southern Alpine Lakes

I am thinking of hiking to some ALPINE lakes in southern Alberta. One I have never been to is East Scarpe Lake. I was just wondering how the fishing is there if you have been?
I would like to hite up a few alpine lakes this summer and I am only wanting lakes with bigger size (12-16 inch) trout.
Any info would be great!

Thanks.

Overfishing has hurt Scarpe's rep over the last 10 years... It isn't what it once was, but it still fishes ok with a little patience... and it is one of only a few alpine lakes with the ability to produce a trout over 20 inches.

Have you thought about Southforks (Barnaby) or Rainy Ridge Lake for golden trout? They might not be the size you are looking for, but they aren't exactly common.

I have been up to both these lakes and caught fish with a lot of work. I am looking for a lake with a little more payoff than the golden trout fishing.

That's to bad about Scarpe being overfished. What about the other lakes in that area? North and west Scarpe and Lys lake? Also what do you mean when you say a little patience?

I haven't been there personally, but Grizzly Lake supposedly has some pretty decent brook trout in it. I have hunted in the area and I know that it's quite a long hike to that lake. I think most people take horses, and you do have to cross the South Castle River, so I don't know if you could do this hike until after run-off. It might be worth checking out.

Any body fish South Scarpe Lake? We were there a few years ago hunting, but didn't fish the lake. There were a few risers though, but we couldn't really judge size.
