UV light and clothes
Many articles on UV light and what deer , elk , etc can see .
Do you consider this when using your hunting gear ..
Washing your clothing in whiteners ? I have tried a UV flashlight on mine and was amazed to see the diff ..
Not a camo thing
so what you say ? is it real

For us shotgun coyote hunters, it is real important to not have anything exposed with UV brighteners in it. This is why some guys say "I was in full camo and the critter looked my direction and just locked on to me". Yep, its a real thing.

To carry on ..
I personaly have bought name brand camo , Badlands , and another top rated company only to check and find out the UV is an issue .
Not just washing . It's there when you buy ..
And I can attest to the diff it makes in the field ...
Do you check or even notice ..

Surely something exists to dull the uv light reflection?

exactly why I'm asking the .? is there
Lots maybe hunting with wind in mind , cover , scent and UV is the culprit
It's a bigger issue than many know or think ...
Good question , Dewey

Would graphite absorb more uv than it reflects?
Might get messy...

Probably why, before the advent of all that fancy expensive camo gear, that so many deer, moose and elk have been killed by guys wearing red and black wool mackinaws. (I have been sucked in too - have a whole closet full )

Biologists have proved deer don't have UV filters in their eyes. Humans do. Deer don't see as well in the red end of the spectrum as we humans do, but they see better in the blue range than humans. Several studies prove deer can see UV light, although not all researchers agree to what extent.
A good read about deer and uv light....

thank you and i do understand what you have said already, i will check out the link. but i was more so curious about the magical baby wash for clothes. seemed like it was more about scent? than uv?
personally i wear pretty low end camo and really play the wind. anything that seems “flashy” “shiny” it reflects glows twinkles and probably rubs louder. i can’t say i would be eager to wear. feel like older/used clothes are more quiet and probably reflect less regardles with the fibres breaking down. have gotten into bow hunting the last couple years and have really bin impressed with how blind/dumb/curious/skittish/smart ungulates as a whole are. having to really close the gap you see/learn a lot more i feel now.

Scent and movement are what generally gives away a hunter. I’ve snuck up on lone elk, deer, moose and bear wearing jeans and a sweat shirt. A lone animal is usually easy to approach. Move when it’s head is down feeding. When hunting deer and elk in a herd or group, there are a lot of eyes to try and fool. If this is the kind of hunting you do, then it makes sense to use every advantage. I use sport wash on my hunting clothes. Scent free and no UV brighteners.

It doesn’t contain the phosphates regular detergents do. It’s the laundry detergent that causes the problems because of the brighteners they have.

Canada essentially banned phosphates in detergents in 2011.
I'm sure that there are other brightening agents.
