It's clearly a chimera
But seriously, it's probably Frankendog. That is one of the funniest dogs I've ever seen! You look at the head and think it has to have chihuaha in it, and the coat almost looks pomeranian but the tail looks more like a fox or yote lol. The coat is very different with the distinct sections.
Enter him in the worlds ugliest dog competition and he might make you famous! Careful though, he might be a government experiment on the loose.

Looks like it has coyote in it, but definitely a lot of dog as well. Would get put down if you took it in. The dental work is a big deal.

That's awesome, must've pulled on your heartstrings a little bit, eh?
Out of curiosity... what might the pound do with the little gaffer? Aside from euthanizing. I can't imagine they'd release him into the wild.

It looks to me like mom was a 'yote who'd had too much fermented fruit one evening, when a male Chihuahua reeking of a concoction of Brut 33 & Axe body spray happened by; he figured that he'd show her the time of her life, and in her inebriated state she obliged. Soon afterwards she showed him why the local canines called her "Black Widow". Junior here followed soon thereafter

i was told that if he is some sort of mutant pet they will try to find his owner.
if it is some kind of fox/coyote he would go to a wildlife sanctuary
personally i don't like his chances if brought to the pound. nothing against animal control, i'm sure they do their best, but even though he seems happy and healthy he does have issues. i'd bet 10 to one he gets put down.

If ya really want to keep the little bugger, just tweak your story when you get to the pound.
"My elderly neighbour gave me her mix breed dog, just coming in to register him/her in my name. I don't think it's ever been reg. before.."
Named him yet? I'd love to know where this goes!
my suggestion: WILEY CHI-YOTE

That is one weird dog lol. Definitely not a coyote although perhaps partially coyote.
Whatever it is looks old and likely abandoned.

There is a DNA test that can be done....I will personally pitch in $20 towards the testing to prove there is not a fraction of 1% coyote in the DNA of that DOG....it is part chihuahua with a hint of something else or a couple something elses....but no way is there any coyote in there.

Whatever it is,
It is going to be the most loyal best friend you can ever hope for.
Rescue Dogs (Or yotes?) are the best, all the way.
But is clearly labelled in your 3rd pic "Doggy" lol

all i can say is that this has been quite an experiance. since i regestered him on "petlynx.com", put some posters up and talked to all the neighbors and dog walkers in the area the response has been incredible. even have a fellow who runs a dog rescue operation in calgary who wants to drive down and rescue him if all else fails. he even barked at a nice lady who came to see him today and wouldun't let her on "his" front deck. (first bark iv'e heard)
had the bright idea of just letting him go in the alley where i found him and follow at a distance to see if he would find his own way home but he just beelines in whatever direction i point him at (ukranian hockey player with a breakaway on a frozen river).
still hopeing to find his owner, but if this keeps up i might have to give him a name.

Definitely maybe half chihuahua and yote
Not sure what the other half is .....there was a tale of a killer chihuahua
Loose in fish creek park....likely breeding those Yotes....
Finally f&w found a dead Yote that Peppy had killed ,..
No lie ..got stuck in the Yotes throat and did him in...
This could be his half cousin ....
That coat is pretty freaky , have you checked his dental records
At any of the local vets....

there are no dental records he is toothless.

See if there are any barrels racers in your area missing a dog.
I’d go with Gummy or Gummer for a name.
