Best spinning rod?
What do you think is the best spinning rod in the 100-150 dollar range? Thanks for your input, have a great weekend.

I believe Shimano Compre or Crucial are reasonable values in that price range.

St.Croix - Premier Series .........or............ G. Loomis GL2 series
These are, by far, the best rod I own for Walleye and Trout ...... and I own Shimano, Quantum, Rapala, Fenwick, Abu Garcia, and a few other rods in a medium light application and ........ I keep reaching for these 2 rods .........

OP indicated $100 to $150 range ......... I picked mine up at the fishin hole, on sale, at the wall to wall, for around $150 ....

Rods are a personal thing ,look out side the box (stores) and basically out cast all your friends. Well within your price range https://www.tackleuk.co.uk/app/#tack...-p-546668.html if your a boat angler look at the 7' model.

Must of been tough casting from way up there on that horse . Uglystick and zebco were catching fish when the st croix guys were still twinkles in there dads eye. Lol .

cant say ive owned one in a while, but they are a fine rod for all but the guy that makes a living from fishing and even some that do. No such thing as poor gear any more the longevity is all that seperates decent from great and perhaps weight of the rod.

St.Croix started making fishing rods in 1948.
Zebco produced their first fishing in reel in 1949.
The first Ugly Stick was produced in 1976 ( although Shakesphere is a much older company).
Those twinkles must have been pretty bright .......... good thing Viagra was invented in the 90's ........
My Horse is a 150.
It was, however, a good effort.

actually the are originally a net company then they were going bust . Then again in 65 they were going bust lol back in the day they couldnt sell heat to the Eskimos lol . Cant actually say I knew anything abought st Croix till 2000ish and zebco and Shakespeare have been world wide leaders in fishing since I could hold an out fit . Notice in no way do I question the usefulness of the st Croix fine gear if over priced and some what limited as to overall usefulness. Do they even make a waggler rod or a swing tip. Dont think Iive seen there banner at an international event out side of fly fishing. As in all things the gear does not make the angler. Lol.

I also believe that rod/reel combos are a personal thing for anglers. over the years a person can accumulate a lot of combos for for different situations. everything from a 10' rod for pic rigs on the river which gives you a steeper angle and reduces "river drag", to a telescoping rod that fits in your backpack for that trail hike to remote trout pond.
personally I have not noticed much difference between a 200.00 fenwick and a 40.00 ugly stick, though one thing i stay away from are 1 piece rods. Prefer a 2 piece for easier storage and transportation purposes.
I also believe that the line you use, and setting the drag properly is more important than the rod your using (but thats just me).

I still like my original Shakespeare Ugly Stik that I bought many years ago. The new ones you get today are made cheap and are really heavy.

Fenwick HMG. Best spinning rod I have ever owned. Don't plan on owning another after using the HMG for the last 5 years. Also, well within the price range you indicated.

So I have to be the ******* to say Daiwa... I made the switch to Daiwa last summer, love it. Personally I prefer it over my St.Croix. But to each their own

Interesting to be sure...lots of different suggestions out there, and really none of them are wrong...like waterninja mentioned, it all comes down to preference.
Personally I'm partial to Shimano rods...particularly the Clarus and Compre models. I recently got myself a St. Croix Rage and find it to be a very nice rod...light and sensitive...however I wouldn't say that it's $50 better than the Compre I used before it...I think I kinda hit the point of diminishing returns with that one.
They'll all do the job, even if some do it a little more stylishly than others. Your best bet is to hit the local stores and see what some of these rods actually feel like in hand, and what feels good to you.
