Default Half Cocked And Waiting

Well going through the selections of rifles to carry this season settled on the Marlin 1894 in 44mag.
Built in 1986, JM stamped and no cross bolt safety.

Still waiting for la pepperoni buck.

I don't mind the fancy custom builds out there. But a rifle like that Marlin still does it for me. Beauty.

This marlin was made in 1976 according to the serial number.
Stuff her full of cartridges and shoot for a week!

Agreed! It's very easy on the eyes.

Those heated grips/thumb you sold me a few years back for the quad sure make for a warm ride out to the stand!

Much appreciated.

Good luck!

Default Cross bolt safety

This may be a dumb question but why does everyone hate the cross bolt safety so much?

I would love another 30/30 450 or 45/70 but the prices just kill me. When i move to whitecourt i will be looking for a back roads truck gun. 300 win and 300 rum are to long and to nice to bounce around on the seat.

Don’t hate but don’t need additional safety implemented.

The crossbolt safety was the answer to a non-existent problem.

Load the tube, rack a round, half cock and good to go.

Takes a secure man to admit this in public.

Lolololol this has me laughing.

what is the purpose of half cocked as opposed to not cocked but a round chambered?

Well if the hammer gets knocked you can have an unsafe discharge so if the hammer is down it’s on an empty chamber.
Half cock is a safety with a round chambered ready to go.

I think this is a joke more along the lines of a dude saying he’s half cocked

I shot at a deer 3 times, thought I had three dud rounds. Turns out I was the dud. First and last time hunting with the cross bolt safety Marlin. It’s now someone else’s headache. Funny thing is. I have had my marlin 30 years or so, thought I’d get a newer fancy one. Dud!
Still have my old one snd use it as often as I can.

Or cracked. But since he's a Canucks fan I went with the most obvious meaning.

Default Now I know

Good to know. I’m new to the marlin lever world. I’ll be packing my ruger made 45/70 while pushing push and stump sitting this year. Half cocked it is!🤪

Funny you mention that, past hunt, rattled in a 160 class beauty whitetail, came storming up a snow covered ridge, buddy had his lever and he did the same thing all caught up in the excitement.....I said why didn’t you shoot as I was 50 yards away from him.....he said he did

In the truck I made many offers to buy his rifle real cheap

I see others will put a small o ring over the cross bolt safety preventing it from ever being engaged, cheap and effective way of eliminating it but it I simply there if ever needed.

Just google what I a man talking about.

Half cocked and cockeyed is how I roll.....some may say I ain’t all there

And the wait is over, Mr. Marlin spoke this morning.

First light rattle then followed up with the grunt tube and in he came.
40 yards the hammer dropped a quick follow up and it was over.

Congrats to you sir. I was out last week chasing southern Ab mulies with a BLR 243. Almost got to thumb the hammer on Mondo, but he busted me in the open @ 500 yds, dropped into a coulee, and was gone. I’ll try again this week but if he groups with the does in the open, he won’t last long. Ran into a couple locals that have tags as well, so timing will be everything.
I did snap a crappy pic.
