Default Caught a Newfie tring to keep bull trout

So I was fishing on the red deer river out west of sundre for August long at my favorite spot. And this guy comes up on his quad. Was a red Polaris and starts fishing. He hammers a nice big bull trout and I see him ready to put it in a bag but I yell at him and he drops the fish. I say you know that a bull right. He says it's a brown which I know there isn't that far up. He says no spots and it's a brown. Then I'm ticked off his nephew and niece show up looking for a fish fry. Talked to them and they are newfies. Later on he catch a other fish a bit smaller he looks around to see if I was watching and then sees me walking up and throws it back. I was ten feet behind him and seen it was a bull and say nice bull and he's like it was a brown. Saved some fish that day. ticks me off when these people try and poach endangered fish. Most newfies I met don't give a tho they flood alberta to come here to live and work and don't respect . Ps later on he broke his axle on quad and had a busy day.

Should have called him in and had him meet the local F&W cops. You did the right thing by stopping him that day, but it probably won't change his overall pattern of behavior.

A good friend of mine lives out there (NFLD) now and says poaching is rampant. They come from generations of drunken fisherman and really don't know better. Not an excuse, more of a reality... I know quite a few Newfies and they bend the rules more than most.

While the OP did the correct thing by informing the "Newfie" about the release law for Bull Trout, it also sounds like he might have some anger issues to sort out.

Should have taken a NICE picture of the guy and his fish, complete with license plate.

I won't pick on any particular strain of Canadian, but it seems that this behaviour is par for the course for a whole pile of transient types that get chased out of their own province. Of course there is a some good ones in the bunch...

As a rule, we seldom get the good ones. The good ones have good credit and jobs, and don't need to leave.

So he has a two fold arguement.

But you may have wanted someone to proof read your essay before posting it.

Although I have strong opinions based on certain poachers, its unlikely I would post them here.

I was born and raised on the east coast, moved here in the eighties and consider this my home. A few years ago I would have been extremely upset with your post.....now not so much.

The easterners I grew up with were humble hard working folks that gave much more than they would ever even consider taking. Quick with a joke, always a smile and genuine in their dealing with others.

I am in direct sales and was always proud to mention my heritage. These days I do not volunteer that information.

Being a born and raised Calgarian , I believe ...' That the only got thing to come from the East , is the sun "

This is just for the sake of some humor , there seems to be so little these days .

This is the way i see it also.i came here from the east in 99 i left a good job for a winter on the mountains and fell in love with the west, back then i worked with full crews of good eatern boys, but over the past few years it seems we are getting a lot of misfits lookin for easy money, dine and dash types.
