Default Identify this rifle.

Short story behind this. We've headed up to northern sask every summer for the past 7 years. Fishing camp via float plane. 100 miles from civilization. Theres 1 camp at this lake, and a few lakes surrounding accesible through streams and by quad. We took the quad a few miles into an unknown lake to try our luck. On the way out i was soaking my feet on the shore and triped over something. I pulled it out of the sand/water and lo and behold an old rifle. We tacked it to the side of the cabin.

Curious if anyone can tell me anything about it? Whats left of it.

The real question is.......was there one in the pipe with the safety on, or was it unloaded?

Couple pulls of a bore snake will fix it up.

The rest should buff right out.

Cool.
It's a savage 99. If it could talk. What story would it tell?!Get dumped out of a boat or canoe by accident . Did someone miss a moose , get mad and throw it away? Was it damaged and not worth fixing and get tossed?

It's missing the lever loop so it's possible it was not functioning and got tossed

They are called Savage 99 because 99% of them have broken butt stocks

Hey camel toes ugly sister is the breech bolt still in the receiver? One can't tell by the picture. If it's gone I would bet some one stripped it of parts and tossed it

Was the owner lying beside it ? Gun found in the middle of the bush,it's possible he perished at the site, wouldn't be anything left after all these years.

Come on, it's just been there a very long time. Would be interesting to try and get a serial number, which would give a year of manufacture.

Don't run a bore snake through it you will bugger the rifling up.

Default Numbers

I don’t think serial numbers will tell it’s age, Savage was all over the place with its serial #’s, but there should be a boss code at least for part of the history of the 99.

He could try dipping it in CLR , as going by their commercials , that rust should come right off.

Easy Peasy.

Just once , I'd like to see a product ... any product , work as well as it's advertised to

A friend of mine found a 1873 with the action open when cultivating his field.
Makes you wonder if there was a story behind that.

I remember a Calgary gun show, some years back. Guy had a Springfield carbine on display that by serial number was connected to the Little Big Horn. It Came from Hobbema.
