Default Outlook for upcoming season

Hey All

I took a drive up NW of Calgary and Cochrane this evening. Everything was frozen solid. I'm guessing the areas SW of the city will be more of the same. Being some what new to Alberta and trout fishing (4 years) and not experiencing a long cold winter like the one we've had this year, I was wondering what kind of winterkill or above normal fish mortality to expect. Does the prolonged ice over the moving water have a drastic effect on the fish populations? Or can we expect similar fish populations maybe just slightly leaner fish.

Just wondering and looking for any insight from more experienced anglers than myself.

Thanks in advance

Usually it's the shallower, weedier lakes that are most susceptible to winter kill, and I think a lot of them will be bad this year.

There are also worries on some of our small streams. The low water has made them more susceptible to winter kill. There are ffears for some of the smaller Cuttie streams.

I would also guess the grayling in the south outside of quarry lake will also not survive
