Honestly, I would give it another 10 days or so,, chain isnt known to get thick quick and patience is the best practice right now.

Apperantly the ice there is real wacky. If the pike stick to the shallows to moderate shallows, I know where I am going at Ice on.

Its ok to ask but many of us on here have taken the time to learn how different bodies of water freeze in perfect thru not so perfect years,, this year was an odd year and by your many questions, I would wait if I were you. Many of us have also learned where trouble spots are,, it's safety first. Ice is rarely consistent,, one person may report on 6 inch ice and know where to hop onto the ice, another may say 8 inches -at macgregor for example- you may show up, park on the milo dam, climb down the wall and go in waist deep.

My point is, you seem to be a novice (i could be wrong) but I think best that you give it 10 days or more,, more for chain as it sits in a windstream depression that affects the ice, even pcr, 45 kliks east, doesnt suffer poor early ice like chain.

Just stopped in on my way to Fernie. The whole lake is finally frozen. Walked out 30ft and smashed a hole in the ice with my axe. Ice is 5-6inches of solid clear ice. Great for walking on, but far from driving on.

I can bet the ice is solid all the way across. And i have caught a lot of bows 30ft from shore where i tested the thickness. I wish i wasn't working, doesn't look like anyone has been out. The fishing should be great!

Does it pick up later on? And what is best for bait there.

go to the end parking lot, walk out 30-40 feet and start fishing, no need to go to the middle of the lake, this is one of the most productive spots on the lake

Has any one ice fished the North end of the lake and if so what kind of depth is there? I think there is a parking lot there now.

Thanks

x2 on the velveeta cheese. That stuff works like magic on chain lakes. Catch tons. Never fished the north end, always the south end where the dam is. Hope this helps

Corn works, but fish like humans are unable to properly digest the outer cell wall which can cause a blockage in the fishes digestional tract and lead to death.
