Default Top Water Baits

Come may long weekend I will be at Lac La Biche for a family gathering but I want to do some shore fishing while there. We are camping at camp 3F so I only have the shore at that site to fish. It is quite shallow in that spot off shore, tried using spoons and jigs last year but that was pretty useless as they kept getting caught on the bottom.

So I figured let's have some fun with a top water bait so I do not need to be concerned with the shallows. I have not used them in ages so I think I may have one single lone bait in my tackle box but I figured it cannot hurt to have more. My dad used to take us to the sturgeon river as kids to use top waters and it was a blast. Have not really bothered since.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a couple to look for? And what about liters? I would think it's not the best idea for a top water as that metal wire would be very visible on the water. Or is it still okay?

Yes preferrably pike. I am not sure anything else would be in that close to shore in shallower water. But hey if something else could be caught I would be open to other ideas.

Topwater frogs and mice are always good for any aggressive fish like pike or bass I would still recommend using a leader. Livetarget makes great looking topwaters

I have good luck with the Buzzin Frog and the Zara Spook. Also a floating Rapala is a good choice in shallower water as well

Big fan of the booya buzz baits with the clicker on the blade. I can reel them in nice and slow and they sure seem to get results. Usually have a little better luck when the water warms up but it's worth a shot in May.

Top water try poppers, just google them, I use them for salt water to and if it has teeth it will go after them.

Pricey and needs a rod with some backbone but I like the Joe Bucher Top Raiders. Use them in the shallows or over top of weed beds. Seeing a pike hit one is memorable.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas! I think I will take a look around a Cabelas for these lures.

The frog and mouse are interesting picks. And a Rapala popper seems to be a good go-to. Same with all the spooks.

You want to feed candy to big fat girls laying in the shallows on sunny early spring days ............Esox Snax Musky Buzz

These are also deadly trolled from a planner board as you let her ride out the side and into the shallows.

Zara Spook, more fun than what should be allowed. Google walking the dog.

I've had great success on buzzbaits in the shallows.
