No matter where you go, Manitoba or Ontario, be prepared to spend lots of hours per fish.
I like that muskie have such nice teeth. Like pike on steroids. (i didn't catch the fish in the pic) I fished lake of the woods for 3 days a long time ago and never caught a single muskie.

Nickname is the fish of 10,000 casts.
My brother fishes them regularly, he and a buddy do a late season trip on the French river every year.

Tiger muskies in Washington. I'd say that's a bit closer than lake of the woods.

I believe there are a couple lakes or reservoirs down around Spokane that have stocked hybrid Tiger Muskies for the better part of 30 years. Lake of the woods is enormous compared to these so would think odds may be a little better down that way to get in to them.

Having grown up on lake of the woods, I can say the Muskie fishing there can be phenomenal. If you grow tired of trying for Muskie you can always switch to bass fishing which is significantly more productive. Another good spot in the Kenora Ontario area is the Winnipeg river just downstream of the Norman hydroelectric dam. The nice thing about the dam is you have shore access to some very productive Muskie spots and you could catch a limit of walleye in about five minutes. If your looking for a guided trip you could call halleys camps or the owner of figure8 baits and get a knowledgeable guide that could get you on fish.

To my knowledge, there hasn't been a Musky in Manitoba in many, many years. There used to be some down south of Brandon, by the US border, but that was a long time ago and long since winter-killed. I don't believe they exist (other than an odd one that got lost along the way and wandered through the Wpg River system....) in Manitoba at all.
Shoal, as in the East/West Shoal Lakes just west of Winnipeg, has (on a good day) large perch and some pike, tho those numbers are way down now for reasons that are in debate.....

If you really want too catch musky's. Make the trip to lake St.clair and hire one of dedicated musky charters.. All trolling usually,, but there is no where in North America you will catch more musky's day in and day out.. Typical charters are catching 6-12 an outing.
