Default Stocked Trout life expectancy

Tried to google but couldn't find a real answer.

Assuming no winter kill and pike infestation, how long will stocked trout live?

As an example say Chain Lakes up by Athabasca

Thanks

4-6 years is average based on what I have read. In most ponds especially with heavy fishing pressure etc lucky to even last that long. If you catch a 4 year old out of Chain I think you would be doing pretty good.

I talked to a biologist about this a couple years ago. He said 8 years is pretty well the limit of a stocked trout's lifespan.

Default Wild trout

Anyone know the life expectancy of wild trout? In guessing there are many variables like location, temp of water, ect... Curious if there is an average.

Although if waters clean and deep like deif then they live and grow much longer

Funny you should mention Diefenbaker. The world record Rainbow was caught there and that is why we were talking about the how long the trout that escaped from a fish farm on that lake might survive. Thats when I was given the 8 yr. or so lifespan info.

Lots of variables in a trouts life...easy food sources in lakes, more work for them in streams and rivers. Genetically they have the 8 year built in stocked or wild.

8 seems low at first glance but maybe not seeing other salmonoids only live 4. It would be interesting to see a growth chart there is a stocked lake I fish in SK where we have boated some pretty beastly stocked trout

A diploid or a triploid is different
Diploid presuming a rainbow max 7 years
Triploid rainbow 9 years plus

Diploid brookie 4-5 years
Triploid brookie 7 years

Brown trout diploid max 14. Common 9 years
Triploid havn't seen any data

Some Lake Trout (which is really a char I guess) have been aged to 70 years.

http://www.worldfishingnetwork.com/tips/post/lake-trout

Stocked 3N Rainbows to over 20.

I think there is some significant variability between sub species, environment and further disparity between genetic variations (3N versus 2N) etc...

Although, admittedly, most publications represent a life cycle of something like 4-8 years depending where you read it.

^2,

Dr. Martin Paetz' book - The Fishes of Alberta echos the above, but it only make reference to trout in streams, NOT stocked trout in lakes.

Measuring life span depends on water temp and other stresses trying to spawn, winters with low o2
I read articles which fish were controlled atmosphere water constant 52 degrees

If you saw Allen Bill in the hay day life expectancy is measured in days
