Default scarface pike

[IMG][/IMG]

Hi, can anyone tell me what could have given this pike that large wound ?
in the summer , I get that birds can do this but ice fishing in December ?
Any chance another pike may have taken a bite out of him ? this one measured 75 cm .

There are a few common types of diseases/parasites here in Alberta that cause these open wounds to appear on pike - quite a few threads on this if you search.

And, to be clear, they look exactly like a physical wound - open sores, elongated lacerations, etc... it's quite counter intuitive when looking at it - but it is what it is - but I'd say that's a strong possibility.
