I think you are right. Lots of bulls to choose from, definitely a whole lot of fun and frustration. Just not a bunch of 350+ bulls to choose from

Sure were some amazing years early on. Chasing around 360-380" elk is pretty wild. Was lucky to have some great hunts in there and see some true giants.

There sure were. Tag numbers were cut this year. If it stays that way for awhile we might get back there. Sure are fun to see, as long as they stay on the neighbors place and leave our fences alone. Haha

Tork, Willmore produced some record book bull elk in past years. Clarence Brown still holds the B&C record for Alberta at 419 inches taken in Panther River. A 400 inch elk will have to probably be a old boy that wanders out of Banff or Jasper. Ya Ha Tinda area should hold a few big bulls.

At priority 20 I would say to apply for the Yaha Tinda draw. That area will not be a trophy zone in the near future with the increase of unregulated hunting that the NDP signed off on.

Tough position to be in Tork. Wolves have ate the eastern slope clean. Suffield is wrecked. Resident herds of elk throughout the prairie have been trimmed down by draw tags and Indians. Looking at 330” off the prairie would be a big bull now.

Waterton is either sex draw priority. Need the access and cold weather to come late season.

That’s not even close to accurate for Waterton 300 Elk
Besides unless he’s been applying for 300, that’s not even an option

There are some crankers around wainwright, problem is they could be in 5 different WMUs within the same day. Let alone the permission issue

I’d wait for a EINP draw or another prairie WMU to open. Might be a long wait though.

WMU 510 seems to be coming back really nice. Saw plenty of 6 points in that area this year.

Just following this thread as I'm getting high priority for bull elk and looking for wmu to start the scouting permission trek. Thinking 102? what are the thoughts on here?

You will be disappointed with that decision. They doubled the cow tags and would be hard pressed to find a bull that would break 290. 108 has better bulls.

Definition/expectations of a 20yr priority worthy bull?
Except for maybe SW corner of the province, I would be headed east of the #2. Wasting time and priority going west.
Even at that, the prairies aren't what they used to be. Alberta doesn't manage for "trophy" quality. They have a tough enough time managing for quantity.
With that being said, a 350" is still doable. 380+ getting to be a dream.
May need the assistance of a resident "guide" to find a good bull.

I wouldn’t burn a priority 20 on 108. Having said that I don’t know where I would go either haha.

Is it just me or does it seems like a sad state of affairs where a guy has half a lifetime of priority. Coupled with some hard hunting and good shooting that can’t guarantee you a 330”.

Coulda killed two bulls at priority 10. Doesn't seem worth it holding onto these absurd amounts of priority anymore.

It was 11 years ago when I drew on a P8 and killed a 360" prairie bull on the first day of my hunt. Those few years were pretty damn amazing for quality on the prairies. I was lucky enough to draw the 3rd season on the first year and snuck in with a slightly lower draw priority than some. Some great hunts in those years that followed!

I don’t think tork is/was ever lacking opportunities to kill elk, and there aren’t a whole bunch of guaranteed 330s anywhere, at least for under 5 figure payments. Folks got twisted over Suffield, that was a once-in-ever situation that stretched out for a few years. Both the high priority outside hunts and the base opening. That’s gone, may as well forget it.

There are big bulls killed in Alberta every year, but as a function of permission not draw priority. And there are bigger bulls where there is no season for them.
