They Dont...OR with great difficulty, 99.8% of tow truck drivers will not go off the shore, their insurance will not cover them for going on the ice.
Depending how deep the water is and how strong the remaining ice is but ramps could be put in to aid in rolling resistance up onto the ice.
About the only way would be to lift it out, but your not going to get a 20 ton picker out on the ice to lift it either.

No no no, do it the redneck way. Just get some empty and sealed plastic 45 gal drums (10 I would think should do) and strap em to all sides, front and rear of your truck. That should keep'er afloat there Vern

Here`s how the Russians get a car out of the ice: a few planks and a rope.

Since it's his ticker needing the work, it should be OK to share some funnies with him.

If someone has a valid Autopac policy and a valid driver's license, Manitoba Public Insurance will cover incidents like what happened Sunday, a spokesperson said Monday.

Balsam Bay, located about 75 kilometres north of Winnipeg, has grown in popularity over the past couple of years as a fishing spot according to locals.

Autopac must have changed this coverage when they went to No Fault insurance. We know people from the Winnipeg area that were denied coverage for similar incidents (truck through the ice) in the early 2000's. Recoveries were expensive then, can't imagine what it would cost today.

That's really unfortunate, because stupid crap like this ends us costing us all money at the end of the day, the more insurance claims there are the more the rates for insurance go up across the board, just like when a vehicle is stolen after it was left running with the keys in it and the doors unlocked, another insurance claim, stupidity seems to me making new inroads.

If it's on an approved winter road, insurance should cover the vehicles, but if it's some idiot going out on thin ice like this, there should be no coverage.

The Manitoba autopac policy could be like the package policy from SGI in Sask., plate insurance is basic coverage a package policy is 25% more for better coverage.

Blatant stupidity shouldn't be covered everybody pays for this.
