Default Deer Carcass

Newbie here. I brought my first deer to a butcher. I'm thinking the next one I may try to butcher myself. My question is, what do ya'll do with the carcass when you're done?

It depends on where you live, and the waste disposal protocols.

In some municipalities, you can't put them in with household garbage or compost. Others are fine with it.

Ideally, returning it to the woods is great - but not always an option if you live in town. You don't want to dump it in acreage country either...

We make sure to dispose of the waste on public land or a friend's farm, away from roads and trails, mainly so that it stays out of the public eye (every year there are complaints of someone dumping carcasses where they are discovered by a passer-by - and that definitely doesn't look good for our community!)

The other aspect is that it attracts predators/scavengers and could pose a hazard for an unsuspecting hiker/hunter using the trail.

And - very important - take the bags/nitrile gloves/wipes/rags home. All too often we find where some slob just dumped a garbage bag full of deer/moose waste and didn't take the non-compostable waste home. Grrr.

If you know someone who wants to use it for wolf/coyote baiting, that's a potential use as well.

Give it to hunters running wolf baits or throw it in the bush on crown land out of sight were scavengers can deal with it. I should add the carcasses are staying in the same WMU(even general area) where they were shot and CWD is not a real concern here at this time either. So before someone brings up that concern it’s not an issue in this case

Set all my scraps and carcass’s about exactly 100 yards from my bedroom window.

My parents neighbor had dogs on the raw diet. They took all our scraps, bones and all, it was great. Now I just take the Sawzall and cut all the bones & hide down to small sizes and box it up. It will go on the next trip to the bush & feed the critters or a friends work dumpster if it is the end of the season.

I always assumed people in the city threw the carcass off a bridge in the middle of the night.

I mean a bridge over the river, not a bridge over the whitemud.
Although, that wouldn't surprise me either...

This works well. In November I will take all the bloody scraps and put them in a large rubber maid container and fill with hot water. Stir it around well and let it freeze solid.

makes a really nice popsicle for the coyotes and they love it.

Do you wrap it up in a carpet or bed sheets are fine too? Asking for a friend…

Make a post on Facebook in a community group, lots of people will be lined up for it. Easiest way to discard of it they will come and take it away for their dogs
