Default More recovered TSX's

It seems that we always expect them to whistle through. Ironically, it's when we do recover them that I'm glad we used them.

What animal did you recover them from? How far, cartridge, etc...?

Foreground is a 140 TSX from a 280 Remington. It was recovered from a WT shot steeply quartering away at 200 yds. Broke his rear leg just below the hip and was recovered outside the rib cage on the far side. Background is a 225 TSX from a 338 Win Mag. Shot through on shoulder of a Bull Moose at 260 yds. Right through the heart and then recovered mid way through the hide on the far side.

That there is a beautiful thing!
I have not been able to recover any TSXs myself but have been using them with great results.
Long range, short range, they just work.
Thanks for posting

I think I've pulled six of them out of various animals this year.

I have recovered a 140 TTSX and a 160 TSX from white tail

The 160TSX was from a 7mm Rem Mag at 376 yards quartering towards. The bullet expanded to the first band. Lost .8 gr from bullet weight

The 140TTSX was from 7mm-08 at 180 yards quartering towards. Bullet expanded to 2nd band. Lost 2 gr from bullet weight.

Both bullets were found in rear quarter in the hide. I love finding bullets.

And those pictures are just one reason that I like the Barnes monometal bullets. They do what they are designed to do.

Is there a rule of thumb for the lowest velocity TSX's can reliably expand? I have read 2500fps of impact velocity should be the lower level. Do you have a rough idea of what the impact velocity was with those bullets?

I have shot game as far as 560 yds with one that started at 3k. It expanded at that distance.

The biggest issue that has held me back from using them is I can only stabilize a 120gr whereas a lead core bullet I can stabilize a 140gr. Do you get a faster twist barrel so you can get the weight in these ones, or do you not have an issue?

I like fast twist barrels but have not seen an issue. 260?

It will stabilize the 140 no problem.

One thing that has always intrigued me is the center rib in the pedals of the expanded Barnes. It appears that there is something imbedded along the axis of the bullet near the center. Does anyone know what this is?

Well my picture isn't nearly as thought out as Chuck's.
This is a 168grain TTSX. It was fired from a 300 WM. Shot distance was about 70-75 yards and was a very steep quartering away angle.
It smashed into the second last rib, broke the offside shoulder and hooked up on the hide. It was a very large cow moose so I figure it went thru close to 4 feet of moose "stuff" before coming to rest.

The bullet on left is from 7mm Mag and right is 7mm-08. The 7mm-08 is a hair over 2800fps

bottom 7mm Mag

top 7mm-08

Also the angle of expansion also reflects the angle of shot placed on animal

Shot my buck this year with my 7mm-08 and 120TTSX at about 30-40yrds tops. Had a quick scan of the kill site and found my bullet in a tree maybe another 15yrd behind my buck.

I have weighed quite a few Barnes after recovery. Their weight retention is amazing.

I don't have any pictures of my bullets as they all passed clean through.
They are not some new fangled solid copper projectiles, rather just some heavy 45 caliber lead slugs out of my Winchester 86 45-70.
Call me old fashioned..............
