I am guessing winter kill will be an issue at a number of lakes this year, we had early ice, snow cover most of the winter and now are going to have late ice off. Pretty much the recipe for winter kill.

I was out there too, only one little guy on the camera. Overheard another say one or two bigger ones on camera but nothing biting.

That's not good news, I was wondering about winter kill with all the snow,
My neighbour went out this morning so I'll get a report from him, He was home before noon so that's a bad sign. I was planning on going tomorrow.

Fished April 1 from about 7:30 until 11:30 am. Water was very stained - visibility about 2’. Lake is fully iced over with ice thickness of 16+”. No one was driving on. 5 of us only caught 2 - both in the 17” range. Limited reports of other fish caught. Game wardens out checking licenses. Lake appears to be in poor shape and may have significant winter kill.

Why does he think this? Did he see any dead fish through the ice or around the shore?

You’re 30 mins away. Why don’t you check it out and give us a first hand report?

Just curious that not one fisherman on the lake had no camera and see the bottom littered with dead fish?

One can speculate but I have not seen any proof on this thread other than they were not catching fish....or very few...

I was going to nip out there this afternoon but it got a little windy, and I'm going to be busy for the next while. Unless there's dead fish on the shore I'm not going to panic.

I was out there today and the water is pretty stained and not a bite all day, a group on the south end counted 6 dead fish on bottom, hopefully it’s just the norm to loose a few and the majority are hunkered down somewhere.

Was the ice getting rotten or gone?

I was there today. No bites. Other fisherman I talked to had no luck either.
I haven't seen dead fish on the shore, but I stayed close to the boat launch. It was pretty windy out there too. Its nice and all in Medicine Hat and when you arrive on site, its like 50km/hr winds....I miss the lakes of the N.W.T.
