Default Central Sask lakes.

Hey folks, we planned on heading to big river sask at the end of May. I am hearing that they have like 4 ft of ice on the lakes. Anyone have any idea if the ice would be gone by then? any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I lived over south of Tisdale for many years. A few of those years we were worried we would not be able to have the boat on the water for May Long, but we always did! Just my past experience.

It will all depend on our weather. If we get some warm weather the ice will disappear quickly as usual. Ice is almost always off by May long though.

4 feet of ice also seems unlikely. Even if true it will rot and break up fairly quickly with warm weather though.

Default -18 overnight

There has been a lot of snow in that area this winter and a lot of cold before and after. It is still very cold here overnight and daytime temps. are still well below normal. The forecast is for colder than average temperatures until the end of this month. Not only will that delay the melt, it will delay the spawn as well.

I fished a walleye tournament there in June 1/2, 2013 when there was wind-piled ice on any shore that faced north, and that winter wasn't as cold or snowy as this.

That said, if you can launch at South Stony (private) or the government launch you will be as far north as you need to be that early; south of Pickerel Point there are three humps in the middle to try to find or stay near any new weed beds on either side.

That'd be Delaronde that I refer too. I've never had any luck on Cowan but it is a very shallow waterway and will stay solid longer.

The river at Nipawin has opened up in front of Twin Marine as of yesterday. Temperatures are to remain at or near seasonal averages and it won't be as long as I thought earlier before we put in.

Cowan is full of pike and watch out for deadheads or partially submerged logs.

there is some nice weather coming up out there for the next few weeks. I'd be happy if any lake is open around there. Its just a fun fishing weekend not a trophy weekend. lol
