Default Alberta Brook Record

So I see in the regs that someone upped the previous record by 2lbs! Did anyone here anything about this monster 14lb Brook? I would have loved to see a picture of that hog!

YUP PHYLISS LAKE And the worst part is by looking at the pic he killed the fish. Bet he found out it sure didn't taste very good.

The record is still Brook Trout 12 lbs 14 ozs D. Jenkins Wood Buffalo Park 1967..

There are some publications that have and still publish the record as 14 -12 because they have inverted the numbers in error and never corrected them

Dave caught a fish in Maligne that would have been the Alberta record but by the time they got to an official scale in had lost a few ounces and was 1 ounce under the record.
The record and the record Rainbow will likely fall in the next years with Trips now in the province.

Just because you stock triploid fish doesn't mean your going to be growing 12 pound brook trout...

NS= North Superior?

The only 14lb'er I've heard of was caught by Dr. Cook in the Nipigon River.

Half of the original fish mount was sadly lost in the Nipigon Library fire I believe.

Would have been great to get a dna sample from the beast.

I have scientifically delveloped a new breed of trout

2n+3n= 5n*
its gonads have no sexual function but a 5 lber will easily grow 20 lb balls. This trout can not be stocked in shallow water

I kind of caught a 3" brookie once.

As I was pulling my fly off the water the poor thing took the fly and was launched 50 yards into the forest on the back cast, never to be found.

The days before triploids were introduced into alberta nature made the odd triploid and they were our record holders, so the answer to if triploids count as a alberta record the answer is yes it doesn't matter if they have any sex or none at all........fishman

Biggest laker ever recorded was what i believe would be classified as infertile. I can't remember if it was classified as 3N or simply as lacking an aspect of its reproductive system. It does indeed happen in natural systems, just not very often. Doesn't need to be a 3N mutation to lead to crazy growth characteristics, other things can divert energy from reproduction to growth.

Do a little research and you will find over the years that most modern records of trout in alberta are naturaly sterile triploids and have ate there way to being bigger and instead of thinking about sex

Thanks for your post as sometimes when u post info on here it feels like u r getting attacked.........i am not one to spoon feed people on everything, i will share knowledge but i do less now on these forums as i feel like i have been attacked, for example the write up i read on the maligne record rainbow is that it is a it with no sex , as far as other species i can't remember off top of my head and also depends on what information is released on these fish..............don't get me wrong there is some knowledge people on this forum that as great to read there posts and there is others that all they seem to do is pick apart everybody on how they hold a fish etc......i am not mad i am just pointing something out some people need to lighten up
