Default 270WSM Loading

Finally got around to doing some loads for my 270 WSM. Started with H4350 because I have a good stock of it, and 140 gr Nosler Partitions.

The only load that shot even close to what I want is at book MAX - 58 grains, however no signs of pressure at all. Thinking I will load up a few more up to 59.5 and see what happens, but not sure that's the answer either.

Thinking maybe I need to try a different powder, have lots of IMR 4831 as well as fair bit of Retumbo. I can shoot bug holes with this rifle using factory ammo in either 140 or 130 grains, it's a Kimber 8400 Classic with Zeiss glass.

Any advice, thoughts appreciated!

Here's what has worked for me in this caliber:

140gr Sierra Game Kings. RL 19 x 63.10 gr = 3030 FPS

130gr Hornady Interlocks. IMR4350 x 55.2 gr = 2913 FPS

130gr Nosler BTH (#27130, yellow tip). IMR 4350 x 63.00 gr = 3252 FPS ( I don't recommend those for hunting)

140gr Hornady BTSP (#2735). IMR4831 x 59.0 gr = 3063 FPS

If you have H4350 as opposed to IMR4350, just start a smidge lower than those I've listed for IMR. Yes they are close, but....

When reloading ANY of the WSM calibers, I would also recommend that the necks should be annealed after the 2nd sizing.

Mine shoots 140gr Hornady BTSP's to approx 3/4" with 58gr of IMR4350 at 3050fps.

Been using 140gr Accubonds reloads with Retumbo and 215 primers since 2005.

7828ssc or WS780 would be other powders to try

I have lots of Retumbo, lots of IMR 4831, H4831SC, so think this is the way I'm headed. I can burn up the H4350 in the 30-06. Thanks!

My rifle liked R-22 behind the 130gr Accubond. The load was shooting 1/2moa, at 3375fps out of the 28" barrel.

I had good luck in my 270WSM with IMR 4831 and 130 Accubond's. 3340fps

Had near identical results in a buddies 270WSM with 7828SSC and 130 Interbonds. 3325fps
