Default Coffee mugs that actually WORK?

Anyone have a recommendation for insulated mugs that actually hold some heat??

I've been using a Contigo mug but it sure doesn't hold the heat very well. Nothing worse than being out on the ice with cold coffee. The thermos does well, though.

Thoughts?

I have Thermos "Work Series" travel mug that works pretty well. about the only thing I donb't like is the reduced diameter bottom, for fitting in cup holders. My trck has holders, But I don't use them so much. I'd prefer a wide and short/squat mug that'll be stable on its own. As far as thermal performance goes, this one holds the heat well. Its in a blue hammertone finish.

I had bought this next one for myself, but before I opened the box the Mrs needed a present for her brother's birthday, so I offered it up. I plan on grabbing another. Its vacuum insulated rather than foam, and the handle looked real sturdy, I'm sure most people here have had travel mugs lose handles. I think I've had at least 5 bust on me, in what I wouldn't even consider rough use. They were freebies though, so I wasn't too ****ed off; but it gave me a discerning eye for mug construction. I found this one at Mountain Equipment Co-op ( I know.... I know.... I shouldn't be shopping there)

Some of the other problems I've had with mugs are ones with foam insulation, where the foam has picked up dish soap in the sink and insists on flavoring any future drinks with soapy goodness. Then you also wonder about what else is festering in that foam lining. Ones I've though were vacuum insulated just had fake spun alumin liners and either also brought in soapy flavor or just filled with water and wouldn't insulate. I'm sticking with vacuum insualted ones from here on. I'll note that the foam insulated one that I linked didn't have ony such issues for me.... (so far?...)

I like the Tim Hortons THERMOS brand mugs - without handles. A good rinse with hot water first to take the chill off the steel, then fill with your java and it stays hot a long time. No handles so that two fit side by side in trucks console cup-holders.

The starbucks thermos cup, best I've ever owned. Easily keep coffee hot in the truck for 5 or 6 hours. BUT it costs I think $35.

Best trick for me is a good thermos, then pour small amounts into the mug at a time.

The all-metal ones from Starbucks are great. No plastic rim to collect crap or soap, and are insulated well.

I just threw a bunch of crappy cups out. Drives me crazy!!
