Default Spring around the corner? Down the block, across the road, past the tracks but:

These lovely pair are nearby, a sight I have not witnessed for many many years. How nice to see around Lloydminster!

Someone nearby, raising them, is the usual reason for seeing them in unexpected places.

Man that looks good !
Pheasant was a mainstay back in the '70s on the farm, paid an extra 5.00
for a stamp to hunt them and the state stocked them.
Great tasting eating bird and fun to hunt, but honestly I was partial the
wild ruffed grouse on the mountain with a pair of bacon strips across the
breast was the best and they didn't cost an extra stamp with the hunting
license. They flew like F-14s through the woods when you dropped one you
knew you were shootin' good.

I have only had ruffed grouse once, and it was very nice, out on a highschool hunting trip at wolf lake in 1984.
I shot a few about 30 years ago, but always gave them to an old guy that just loved them.

I have never tried a hun, pheasant, spruce, nothing because we never ate wild meat.
The one time we did, it was a slimy disgusting snowgoose that mom roasted. One bite and we were all full lol. I remember that like it was yesterday, can still smell it lol.

Pheasants have no problem with our Alberta Winters especially with warming trend. I would guess they will survive anywhere south of Athabasca rivers now. The ACA release sites in Eastern Alberta probably why you are seeing pheasants in Lloyd.

I have seen a pheasant around here but I think there was a local couple doing a release on their own.

Saw the Male yesterday. Dead in the ditch, likely smoked by a vehicle. Poor dumb bird, was really hoping to see it proliferate.
