If you like strict portion controlled bland garbage for food go for it.

Same goes for Earls.

Absolutely agree. I once tried to make a reservation there and they were closed for renovations so I went to Rouge instead and was mildly disappointed. The service at La Chaumiere is second to none. Rouge needs some work.

I used to do the service plumbing for La Chaumiere for quite a number of years, there's a sitting area in the basement wine cellar for tastings. Their wine selection & inventory is immense, it probably rivals catnthehat's gun collection in sheer numbers, lol.

Notables in Bowness is great. Very cool ambiance and we find it romantic.
Broken Plate is a very neat experience.
Mercato is very good as well.

La Chaumiere is a very good choice, great people and food. Joe there is a big time hunter and is very interesting to talk to about it.

My favorite restaurant in Calgary, which has the best service IMO and by far the best value for your dollar is Niko's Bistro in Kensington. The kind of place where you feel like they take the extra step to make sure you are satisfied. Owner Niko comes out and introduces himself, after couple times he remembers your name and often will send out a citron dessert shot on the house. Everyone I have sent there has loved it, maybe not the best place for a extra special romantic dinner as it is a small place, but enjoy it everyone -support one of the restaurants that go the extra mile and is still very reasonably priced. P.S. order the Calamari. (and no i'm not related to him or work there LOL people are so easy to Sh%% on the bad places that it is worth giving the good restaurants a plug)

Catch, Le Dolce and Teatro have all lost a step in recent times. "Notable" is currently setting the high end culinary pace here in YYC.

If your into creative and great fish-"Big Fish" up on Edmonton Trail are fabulous.

Noble was hired by Mo Jessa to do menu development for Earls in the mid 2000's
They parted company
