For gf last bday we went to Bolero. They bring around 16 different fresh cooked skewers of meat. About The Keg level classy. It was tasty and fun, I'd recommend it!

RuthsCris, advertises US BEEF!!! why would you support that?

Model Milk is great
Escoba is great,
Rouge is great
Teatro is great but I wont eat there cause the lowlife owners stiff the contractors that do work for them.

Are you looking for more of a steak place with good seafood, or good seafood with a decent steak.

I agree that Escoba is great food and I have never had a bad meal there, but their seafood selection is limited.

Catch has awesome seafood but I find their steaks to be decent.

Ceasars has great steak and the seafood isnt as good at Catch but it is up there.

Ruth Chris I will never eat at again.

And Charcut and Chophouse seem mediocre to me.

Those are my opinions.

Rouge in Inglewood is fantastic, expensive but worth it in my mind. I celebrated my anniversary there last week....ended up getting my hunting permission as well, lol.

Yup. The Catch in the Hyatt. Excellent restaurant. well above "Keg" level. Murrietta's just a block down the street is excellent as well. They used to have live music or at least a pianist in the longe there as well.

La Dolce Vita in Bridgeland. Don't bother with the menu - leave it up to chef.

The Keg

Great steaks. Quiet dark ambience. Romantic and reasonably priced for the value.

I have been here. I feel like I was robbed last time. Food was horrible and the service was worse. The most impressive thing about it is what the chef thinks of himself. I know he is a fellow outdoorsman but his restaurant in my opinion is one star.

La Chaumiere is our first choice for a class act in Calgary.

I have been going there every few years for the last 30 or so, when visiting from Saskatoon.

I have never been disappointed.

My wife has food allergy issues and they have made her meal from scratch to accommodate her. Once could not ask for better in my mind.

I was once told by an old Italian concrete worker that Da Guidos (a bit up from casual) on center and about 21 ave N, was one of the best places for authentic Italian food when I asked him. He was hard core Italian... about 60 yrs old, really thick accent, and him and his whole crew yelled at each other all day. Sometimes it sounded like there was a war about to break out, but nope, they were just being friendly.

A quick google shows lots of stars...

Another that I've heard lots of good reports on is 4th Spot just west of Da Guidos on 4th st.

Default If you want total value for money

I suggest The Highwood at SAIT.Excellent menu choices and dinner includes
appetizer/soup/salad/main dish.A 4 course meal and the atmosphere is very nice and you cant beat the price of $46 per person with tax and gratuity extra.I know the quality of the ingredients is great as I have delivered them there myself and the kitchen is immaculately clean.

Same dinner at La Caille on the bow or any place comparable will run you north of $300 and the food will not be any better.

Google search The Highwood SAIT and you will get the web page which includes seating times and a reservation system I think as well as a look at the menu.

Hope this helps.

I'll second the high wood at SAIT although I haven't been in years it was always nice at one time. The bonus is the booze is cheap and you can get some kick butt mixed drinks.

In short The Highwood is bang for the buck.I never dine out but if I were to to do so it would be my first choice.Awesome food and nice ambiance with none of the pretentious BS....La Chaumiere etc wont do anything but up the cost of the bill with a lot of snootiness....and snootiness is something the average AO member is not interested in......being given a harsh look because you used your chilled salad fork to dig into your steak is not something you need to deal with same goes for snooty head waiters....and the cost of the meal comes at $300+....you guys complain about ammo prices LOL

The Highwood is a no brainer....good food....nice place...good service....and a total VFM.
