Gas was cheap in the 60's due to over supply market fundamentals. Refineries could easily produce what was needed and then some.
Now with a lack of refining...no new plants built in a long time...so many more cars on the road...different gasoline additive requirements across North America...supply fundamentals are very tight.
That being said oil prices have declined sharply in the last little bit. Should give some breathing room on pricing assuming no refinery problems occur.
