Anyways I’m looking at spending max $1200 for a 50 gallon hot water tank install including demobilization of old one any help is appreciated!
Rudd is sold at HD, and I have had very good luck with it.

I was able to pull a slightly better price on an Rudd from a plumbing supply place because of a friend's discount.

I agree. On the gas end though, better to hire a ticked Journeyman.

Not worth it to blow your house up, kill your family, be the only survivor, lose your insurance claim, and go to jail.

Please explain how you’d go to jail? Have seen some pretty shoddy journeyman work as well. I do all my own home Reno's from plumbing to electrical. Heck I even build my own cabinets, doors and all, money in my pocket is way better than someone elses.

Negligent homicide?

I mean, if you level your house and say a neighbours' or two, that may do it.

Kill an fireman in the process.

I mean, if you knew you should have a ticketed person do it, and the result was a death, I'm quite sure it wouldn't be hard to convict.

After that post, Cabertosser just became twice as busy as last year. Who are you, his marketing director? If not you should send him an invoice.

I've seen some pretty shoddy plumbing/ gas/ electrical/ framing, etc but I've never heard of the offending worker going to jail for it. Its not that bad of an idea in some of the worse instances but I think such punishment more happens from work that was paid for and simply not completed rather than incompetent work. Just in for supper then back out to furnace calls in this cold spell, this time I'm bringing my warmer boots.

Maybe in a fairytale. Did you ever hear of insurance. It’s a far cry from negligent homicide.

Default Carbon tax

I dont think high efficiency was mentioned here. Instead of a light bulb from our government we all should be after them to give us a rebate on High Efficiency Hot Water Tanks and Furnaces to help ease their Carbon Footprint Reduction Plan. How much does a light bulb help? My Natural gas usage is quite reduced by getting a new 98% furnace installed and better Hot Water Tank.

There is a provincial program that is rebating on instantaneous water heater installations. It's a bit dumb though as there are numerous types of heaters of equal or better efficiency available. The NDP chose to rebate tankless heaters but not an indirect heater fed by a condensing boiler, or a power direct vent water heater that still has a tank. I'd be very surprised if there was a competent engineer in that entire political party.

They also have a separate rebate program for commercial buildings but it's not particularly heavy on the financial incentives, I've been doing a commercial boiler room retrofit and the rebate is only around the 2.5% range for the whole project cost. This is why I wonder where the carbon tax is going, I'd like to see the actual numbers of what they're brought in and compare it to what they've sent out in rebates and light bulb subsidies, etc.

Ever stop to wonder how many of those light bulbs were that were subsidized by our tax dollars went to BC or Saskatchewan properties? There is no control whatsoever on who is buying them, out of province landlords could be loading up and we're footing the subsidy......

Tankless hot water heaters aren’t as efficient as you think and are higher maintenance depending on the ground water.

Insurance will cover negligence? Want to test that theory?
