Hiking up high south of Castle Mountain last year I came within close proximity of 3 grizzlies all within 2km of each other. Biggest bears I have ever seen. I swear one of them was the size of my truck. Thankfully they didn't care much about me due to the plentiful amounts of blueberry bushes but wow were they impressive.

Bears are not true hibernators and will often wake up a couple of times over the course of a winter to stretch their legs.

Black bears and most female grizz will hibernate for entire winter. Male grizz will come out a few times in winter , usually when a warm spell.

I had a farmer south of GP tell me that the grizz like to pluck the black bears out of their dens in the spring for an easy meal. Aso seen a pic of a brute boar grizz that would swim under all the barb-wire fences as the trail cams depicted year after year in the same spot, same bear.
